¿Cuál de las siguientes oraciones es completamente correcta en gramática, ortografía y acentuación?

Question

Accepted Answer

Ayer él fue a la tienda y compró todo lo que necesitaba.. The correct answer is "Ayer él fue a la tienda y compró todo lo que necesitaba" because it correctly includes: (1) the accent on "él" (pronoun, not article), (2) NO accent on "fue" (monosyllabic past tense of ir - monosyllables without homographic pairs do not take accents), (3) the accent on "compró" (preterite third-person singular, aguda ending in vowel), and (4) proper use of preterite and imperfect.

"Ayer el fué a la tienda y compro todo" has two errors: "el" without accent (should be "él" as a pronoun), and "compro" without accent (should be "compró" in the preterite). It also incorrectly adds an accent to "fué." "Ayer él fué a la tienda y compró" has one error: "fué" should not have an accent because "fue" is a monosyllable without a homographic pair requiring disambiguation. "Ayer el fue a la tienda y compro" has two errors: missing accent on "él" and "compró."

This question tests the integration of multiple writing skills assessed on the CLEP Spanish with Writing Level 1 exam: correct accent placement on pronouns (él vs. el), monosyllabic accent rules (fue - no accent), preterite accent marks (compró), and appropriate tense selection (preterite for completed actions, imperfect for background). Mastering these interconnected skills is essential for the writing section.
